ABSTRACT

This paper presents the results of a systematic review of the literature (SLR) on the topic Covid-19 socio-political effects worldwide and in Colombia. The objective was to verify the state of the art of scientific production related to this field of study. To achieve the proposed end, 1556 published researches were identified, 6 with emphasis on Colombia and 1550 worldwide in the period between 2017 and 2023. With the scientific mapping, the periods and volumes of articles, authors, journals, countries, organizations, thematic areas and analysis of words and citations were analyzed. The dataset was obtained with the Scopus index database and processed with the statistical programs, Excel and Rstudio with its bibliométrix package. The results show among the countries that stand out the most worldwide the United States, the United Kingdom and China, in the case of Colombia it was found that its frequency of appearance in the field of study is (9) directly or indirectly, the same as Spain (6) y Pakistan (3). Wang Y, Wang X and Flahault, were the authors with the most impact. The journals that published the most articles were the International journal of environmental research and public health, Plos one and The Lancet.

ABSTRACT

Has America's complex academic relationship with China been a largely positive experience, or has it eroded our national security by enabling Chinese Communist academic espionage and influence operations to take root at US colleges and universities? For almost forty years beginning in 1978, US-China education links were widely considered a clear benefit to both countries. Today, academic relationships have become a focal point of the current crisis in US-China relations. A web of suspicion has come down over Chinese students and scholars in the United States, as well as Chinese scientists and entrepreneurs. Some members of the Trump administration have even talked about cancelling all Chinese student visas. This article focuses on Chinese students and scholars in the United States. It examines the flashpoints of academic espionage and China's influence operations on American campuses, looks at how American institutions are responding, and closes with recommendations and reflections.

ABSTRACT

The progression of real world circumstances in Australia enforced a series of rapid and significant transformations from a face-to-face teaching model to an entirely digital learning experience for our cohort of 340 students. [...]we will consider the fundamental impulse behind these remaking processes: how to create a dynamic film culture online to make film studies meaningful (personally, politically, intellectually, socially) and also a site of relief for our students during this catastrophic moment. While this is an efficient system as a secondary port of call, finding a format that replicated the feel and function of inperson synchronous lectures while mediating the online space as the primary delivery for weekly material required us to experiment with form and style. Anecdotally, students responded extremely positively to this format, noting that it provided conceptual and theoretical challenges with the advantage of greater flexibility and control (the ability to pause, return to an earlier part), and opportunities to absorb the material (the relationship between the direct lecture and additional resources).

ABSTRACT

The Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test, a test of cognitive empathy, requires individuals to assess the emotional state of a person by looking only at the eyes. A shortened version (svRME) was used in this study to assess the differences in cognitive empathy between preprofessionals in two healthcare fields and in one non-healthcare field of study. Students from a Doctor of Physical Therapy program, a nursing program, and an engineering program (n = 224) were asked to complete a short demographic questionnaire and the svRME. No significant differences in scores were noted between the students of physical therapy and nursing;however, both had scores significantly different than those of the students of engineering. This study questions if people with higher cognitive empathy choose health-related professions and if this fact could be used in career counseling for collegiate level students. It also questions if the svRME could be used to assess cognitive empathy before and after training designed to improve cognitive empathy in a pre-professional health-related program. ABSTRACT

The lack of justification of the results obtained by artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms has limited their usage in the medical context. To increase the explainability of the existing AI methods, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) is proposed. We performed a systematic literature review, based on the guidelines proposed by Kitchenham and Charters, of studies that applied XAI methods in X-ray-image-related tasks. We identified 141 studies relevant to the objective of this research from five different databases. For each of these studies, we assessed the quality and then analyzed them according to a specific set of research questions. We determined two primary purposes for X-ray images: the detection of bone diseases and lung diseases. We found that most of the AI methods used were based on a CNN. We identified the different techniques to increase the explainability of the models and grouped them depending on the kind of explainability obtained. We found that most of the articles did not evaluate the quality of the explainability obtained, causing problems of confidence in the explanation. Finally, we identified the current challenges and future directions of this subject and provide guidelines to practitioners and researchers to improve the limitations and the weaknesses that we detected.

ABSTRACT

The growing development of biological products highlights the social and environmental responsibility that several industrial companies are facing in recent years. In this context, the advancement of bioprocessing as an alternative for exploring the potential of ecologically based products, especially in biofuels, food, and agro-industrial business, exposes the rational efficiency of the application of renewable sources in different industrial segments. Industries strongly associated with food production concentrate large amounts of wastes rich in bioactive compounds. A range of highly effective technologies has been highly explored to recover large concentrations of prominent compounds present in these materials. The advances in this scenario assurance value addition to these by-products, in addition to highlighting their various technological applications, considering the biorefinery and ecologically based production concepts. Accordingly, this review article described a detailed and systematic approach to the importance of using bioactive compounds and exploring the main sources of these elements. Also, some recent and innovative research that has achieved encouraging results was highlighted. Furthermore, the study included the main extraction technologies that have been investigated as a strategy of prospecting the application of bioactive compounds and optimizing the processes for obtaining natural compounds from plant sources. Finally, future outlooks were presented to contribute to the innovative opportunities and applicability of highly promising technologies and manipulations of bioactive compounds from a range of perspectives.

ABSTRACT

The increased usage of libraries during the Covid-19 pandemic has been well known to science communicators, but scientific communication has not evaluated the distributions of its published findings. Thus, this study intends to identify and map library services in international publishing, particularly the Scopus database during the pandemic. Sixty-four publications in the Scopus database were assessed using the bibliometric approach and fifty-seven documents are considered. To find documents from January 2020-June 2021, the author utilized keywords such as library services AND covid-19. Microsoft excels and VOSviewer software was used to analyze the result and visualize the knowledge map. The results showed that most of the papers are dealt with favorable and adoptive library services techniques, implementation of different users demands during the pandemic. The study found the most prolific authors. Rafiq, M., Batool, S. H., Ali, A. F., & Ullah, M. received a maximum of 20 citations from a single document and Michalak R., Ortiz-Díaz E.M., Pacheco-Mendoza J., Rysavy M.D.T., Saavedra-Alamillas C. published 2 documents each. The United States of America is ranked top to publish the scholarly publication on the Library Services during the COVID-19 related documents with 21 documents. India is in the 2nd rank with eight papers, followed by Pakistan, China, Nigeria, Peru, and South Korea. As a result, publications concerning this topic have a high likelihood of emerging. The most frequent terms used by authors are COVID-19(22.90%), library services (7.01%), academic libraries (5.61%). The shift towards advanced virtual and digital services offers more than just boosting librarians and library patrons;it serves as a move to keep the library relevant in a tech-centered society.
